I offer writing coaching for writers working on short fiction, novels, and memoirs. What is writing coaching? Put simply: I help you work out issues with your writing, both in terms of your writing process and the actual words on the page, and I give you feedback on your work.
My years as a writer, a reader, a workshop participant and facilitator, an editor, and a publisher have taught me that every writer is different. I tailor my coaching to the needs of each individual creator, taking into account your goals, personality, background and lifestyle, to offer the kind of feedback, guidance and advice that will meet your specific needs.
When a writer is interested in working with me, and that feeling is mutual, we start with a 30-minute call (a free consultation), via phone or video, to talk about your writing goals, whatever issues you’re having meeting those goals, how you are hoping I can help, and how I believe I can help. If it seems like a good match (I’m not the right match for every writer), and we are both excited to move forward together, you will then choose a coaching package that works best for you, the cost of which is payable in advance.
I’ll provide you with a list of questions about you, your writing process, and your writing schedules. I’ll talk to you about what your writing day looks like and what gets in the way of meeting your writing goals. Together, we’ll come up with a holistic plan to help you achieve realistic goals that take into account the specific challenges of your life, and that always prioritize your well-being. (Sometimes you have to stop writing and eat some food! Writing shouldn’t kill you, it should help you live!)
More important than the destination, though, is the journey. Remember, writing is a creative process and it’s that process that a writer should be most interested and invested in. We’ll work collaboratively to make your writing process both as productive, and as joyful, as possible.
A writers should select a coach very carefully, and vice versa. When I decide to work with a writer, I do so because there is something in that writer’s work that I love, but also something in the spirit of the person that makes me excited to connect with them. I love stories and I’m highkey wild about the people who write them.

Q: What identities of writers do you work with?
A: I think I’m a good match for writers working at an intermediate to advanced level who are:
- feminist women
- queer people, and
- people who are neither of those things but 1) have read and love my work, 2) understand white supremacy, patriarchy and heteronormativity, and challenge all of those in their writing and in their lives, and 3) want to work with me because of my particular talents, skills, insights, and renowned badassedry.
Q: If I work with you, will I definitely finish my book/get published?
A: No. My job as your coach will be to help you make writing happen and give you guidance and feedback on what you write. If you follow my guidance and advice, which will be based on what we, together, decide you need, I think you’ll get more and better writing done.
Q: You’re Black Girl Dangerous. So…do you work with white people?
A: Yah, as long as you’re not wack. See above.
Q: Do you offer a sliding scale?
A: I offer two different writing coaching packages, both of which are priced well within the standard for what I offer, as an award-winning author and a nationally-recognized, respected thinker. Please do understand that I’m not a non-profit organization or, like, a concept, but rather I am an actual human, with all of the regular needs of a human, such as food and shelter and the ability to clothe my children. You may be able to find a different coach at a cheaper rate and I encourage you to do that if that is what you need to do.
Q: What are your qualifications?
A: My background as a student of writing, a workshop facilitator, an editor, a publisher, and an award-winning writer with several published works and a book deal.
